Soul of the Merced
After a long day shooting in Yosemite, its always a good idea to see what's happening at Valley View. Around sunset in clear conditions, the Merced river picks up the blue sky's reflections, mixed beautifully and complimented by the warm hues reflecting off Leaning Tower across the valley. When you shoot a slightly longer exposure, it reveals something uniquely rich about water, something we can't experience when we observe it in real time.
So you might be asking why am I telling a color story when showing you a black & white image. You'll also find this image's color brother in this same gallery, but I found something unique in also telling the black & white story. Multiple award winning Canadian photographer, Ted Grant, shared some of his creative insights about Black & White photography when he said, "When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls!”. I found this to be equally applicable to images of our natural world too. What do you think about color vs black & white?
