Convict Lake Trail #1
If you catch the light just right at Convict lake, it adorns this little valley's lake in emerald, seemingly glowing from within. Then when contrasted with the vibrant golds of aspen, poplar and willow in the fall, the whole valley feels bathed in luminous vibrance.
As many times as I've been to Convict, I've never wandered too far down the trail, previously content to remain at the eastern end to shoot sunrise events. But the short fulfilling hike along its south banks is wonderful, especially if you wander slowly along, drinking in every scene anew. Our goal was to explore the Convict Creek drainage to the west, a valley at the base of Laurel Mountain, full of equally wonderful geography.
